Do you have a passion for leading others in worship? In recent years, the worship and creative arts pastor has become a common second hire for many churches. In partnership with the Music Department, we are pleased to offer a Worship and Creative Arts Concentration within the Ministry and Youth and Emerging Adult Studies Majors. This concentration is designed to provide a foundation in music ministry and technology.

Why study ministry at Northwestern?

Students complete a minimum of 20 credits with the goal of preparing them with foundational skills in music ministry and technology so that they can best utilize their skills in leading worship or designing creative arts ministries in the local church or nonprofit ministry context. Classes include Music Ministry Foundations, Music in World Cultures, and Technology in Worship.

Northwestern is recognized as one of the best places to study the Bible in Minnesota and the nation. Our history includes ministers, evangelists, and missionaries like Billy Graham and Roger Youderian and many alumni who serve God in their careers.

If you have a heart to serve and disciple others in a professional setting, have good communication skills, and are caring, this might be the right degree for you.

What will you learn?

You will learn to teach and lead others to become fully devoted to Christ and help the church worship God through music and the creative arts.

Some classes include:

  • Music Ministry Foundations
  • Music in World Cultures
  • Technology in Worship
  • Audio Production
  • Video Production

Considering a double major?

The Bachelor of Science in Ministry with a Worship and Creative Arts concentration works well as a double major with a B.S. in Music with an emphasis in Music Ministry major. See the Chair of the Department of Christian Ministries for details and advising.

Accelerated MA in Ministry Leadership

Students may apply through the Ministry department to combine an undergraduate degree in Ministry with an accelerated Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership. Ministry majors complete up to 16 credits of the MA degree during their undergraduate program and the remaining 20 credits during a fifth year of study. The fifth year can be completed on site or through online learning. This pathway saves students time and tuition expense as they add a graduate degree to their portfolio.

As a ministry major, I hope to be an influence in someone’s life through sharing Jesus Christ by taking what I learn and sharing it with them. The classes that I’m taking are opening my mind and eyes to know and learn a lot of things that I’ve never thought ministry could include.

Careers in ministry

There are a variety of career and academic pathways that begin with a degree in ministry.
