Why study information systems at Northwestern?

Our program provides training in three broad areas: low-level technical skills in programming and application development, high-level design and analysis skills, and business and management skills.

In the past, students have interned at companies like Target, Allina, and Wells Fargo to gain real-world experience. One-hundred percent of our information systems graduates found a job within three months of graduation.

Northwestern students have produced capstone projects by developing software and improving design systems solutions for organizations such as: Medtronic, Carlson, Cold Stone Creamery, Delta Airlines, Minnesota Department of Health, Thrivent Financial, and Valspar Paints.

Our business classes regularly visit local corporations within the Twin Cities to experience a variety of business organizations—Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurial start-ups and non-profits. Our small classes enable faculty to personally engage with you and pass on insights for career, faith, and life. With campus so close to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, students can take advantage of opportunities in Minnesota’s thriving business and information systems industries.

If you love problem solving, developing and maintaining systems, and driving business innovation with technology, this might be the right degree for you.

What will you learn?

You will learn to think critically, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively.

Some classes include:

  • Programing - Java
  • Computer Security
  • System Analysis and Design
  • Programing - Mobile Application Development
  • Database Communications

My roommate convinced me to take Principles of Management Information Systems despite never having an interest in coding or computers for the most part. It just so happened that I loved that class and eventually changed my major to Business Management Information Systems by the next semester.
